The 2011 annual conference of The Economic Observer was held by The Economic Observer on 17 December 2011 in Beijing. The theme of the conference is “the vision of the nation: new thinking and new drives”. Prof. Chi Fulin, president of CIRD, was invited to attend the conference and gave a speech on the topic of “Prioritizing the wealth of the people”. He stated that there has been increasing uncertainties of the world economy, and China’s economic growth and transformation is to face more complicated and critical challenges. Against such backdrop, to maintain stable and fast economic growth and to bring welfare to the majority of the people, the key is to promote the transformation and reforms that is oriented with the “prioritizing the wealth of the people”, turning the great consumption potential of the 1.3 billion people into practical demand.
